About Friends --> Mission - Support - Background - Volunteering - FAQ

Why Should You Be a Friend of the Commons? Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions about how we're funded and the support we get:

Why should I make a contribution? You are helping to build community. People meet at the Commons for Playtime, wireless access, study groups, bridge, health and safety presentations put on by community organizations, fairs, community parties and so much more. You make it happen!

How does the bookstore help? The bookstore is making a generous ongoing contribution of space, maintenance, heat, light and people to operate the soundboard. Third Place Books continues to be our major corporate sponsor.

How does the City help? The City of Lake Forest Park has included Friends of Third Place Commons programs in its 2005 budget. Your financial support shows them and other granting agencies that the Commons is valuable to the community.

Do you get money from grants? We continue to apply for grants. This year we received a grant for our InMotion program, seed money for our farmers market, a grant from the Seattle Foundation, and from event co-sponsors. Our eligibility for grant funding is directly related to how well we raise money from our membership community.

How important is my donation? The Commons is like public radio and public TV. Even if you don't contribute to its support, the Commons will be here. However the quality of the programs depends on contributions from people like you. We need your support!
